Nottingham Forest finished in a lowly 16th placed finish during the 2015/16 campaign and an improvement will be necessary during next season for the new manager who walks through the City Ground door.

One of the major reasons for the Reds’ lack of any real form last season was their inability to score goals and their tally of 43 was the third lowest in the entire division.

Britt Assombalonga was missing for the majority of last season and his return to full fitness will be like a new signing for the Reds next season.

It would be unfair for Forest to rely solely on the ex-Peterborough United striker to shoulder the burden of scoring goals on his own and the summer months are likely to see strikers recruited by the Reds.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at three pacey strikers who Forest could look to sign during the summer:

Matej Vydra

Matej Vydra has an excellent goalscoring record in the Championship

The 24-year-old striker wasn’t an overly successful loan signing for Reading last season but that was in large down to the Royals not playing him to his strengths.

On his day the Czech striker is a still a useful asset for any side in the Sky Bet Championship and his record playing for Watford was ridiculously good.

During the Hornets’ run to the Play-Off Final in 2012/13, Vydra scored 20 goals in the league from just 41 appearances and that ration in itself would still get him into most Championship teams.

Vydra is likely to be deemed surplus to requirements when he returns to Watford, with a move to the second tier looking to be a viable option.

Nahki Wells

wellsssss

Huddersfield Town striker Wells netted 17 goals in the Sky Bet Championship last season and he is just the type of striker Forest need for next season.

The Terriers are not the sort of club who would be able to turn down an offer of a certain value and Forest might be wise to test the water with a bid.

The Bermudan hotshot is a consistent performer and he given that he is only 26-year-old he would fit in nicely with the current Forest squad.

Wells would jump at the chance to sign for the Reds and the club could steal a march on their rivals by trying to secure a deal this summer.

Danny Ings

Danny Ingss

An extremely ambitious move for Nottingham Forest this summer would be to try and tempt Liverpool into loaning out Danny Ings, who has recently returned from a long-term injury problem.

Ings was superb in the Sky Bet Championship for Burnley and his all action performances would be a superb asset for Forest to utilise next season.

Liverpool might want their player to go out and play Premier League football if they were to let him go, but Forest could really chance an ambitious arm and try and secure a real coup this summer, by borrowing him for the duration of the season.

Nottingham Forest fans, would you welcome this trio of players at the City Ground next season?
