Aston Villa have recalled Andre Green from his loan spell with Preston North End, and allowed him to link up with the Lancashire side's Championship rivals Charlton Athletic until the end of the season, the Premier League side have announced.

Green joined Preston on loan during the summer transfer window, but struggled to have much of an impact during his time with Alex Neil's side, making just six appearances in all competitions, scoring once in a 4-0 win at Bradford City in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Preston are currently ninth in the Championship standings, one point adrift of the play-off spots following a run of four games without a win that has seen them drop out of the top six.

So what impact could Green's departure have on North End in the second half of the season?

Here, we take a look at three knock-on effects the attacker's Deepdale exit could have on the club.

Additional transfer window pressure

So far this season, attack has been something of an issue for Preston.

A season-ending injury to Louis Moult has left manager Alex Neil with only Jayden Stockley and David Nugent to really turn to in the forward roles, and so far, the pair have netted just three league goals between them this season.

That is something Preston will surely have to change in the second half of the season if they are to have any chance of claiming a top-six spot, and with Green's departure now robbing them of another attacking alternative, there is even more pressure on the club to add to their ranks in that position in January, in order to keep the goals coming between now and May.

It could hamper their transfer business

One significant problem that could arise from this, is the impact it has on Preston's chances of bringing other loan players to the club from Deepdale in this and potentially any future transfer windows.

Top-flight sides are only going to want to send their young players to clubs where they are confident they will get the game time they need to develop their abilities further, as anything else would likely make such a move irrelevant.

As a result, seeing Villa forced to recall Green from his loan spell at Preston due to a lack of such opportunities, other Premier League clubs may now be reluctant to allow some of their young players to move to Deepdale on a temporary basis, lest they find themselves in a similar situation to the 21-year-old winger.

It reduces Preston's chances to rotate for the Cup

Following what has been a busy and - in terms of results at least - disappointing festive period, Preston are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they host Premier League Norwich in the FA Cup.

Having just played so many games in such a short space of time, it would be understandable if Neil had decided to use that game as an opportunity to rotate his side, in order to give his some of his more senior players a welcome rest.

With Green's only two starts for Preston coming in the Carabao Cup, he is one who could have been in contention to feature here, but with his recall by Villa now meaning that may not happen, there is now one less change available for Neil to make, possibly leaving a more senior squad member susceptible to injury, suspension or fatigue as a result of having to play that extra game.
