It's been another monumentally disappointing season for Reading this year.

The new Thai owners have been fairly disappointing since stepping in, with a distinct lack of investment in the team and the only signings over the last 12 months coming in on loan or signing on free transfers, with very few actually needing a fee to be paid.

The Royals owners have stated their intent by saying they want to make the town 'a second London', and have laid out plans to significantly invest in the area around the Madjeski Stadium, but part of this plan really involves Reading being a Premier League side.

To do this, another overhaul is needed this summer, and this time the owners need to invest and spend some actual money, without selling our best players like we have done in the last three seasons or so.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Charlie Firth identifies THREE players that should be brought in and THREE players that should be sold if Reading want to be promoted next year...

IN - Nahki Wells

Reading fans aren't particularly fond of Nahki Wells.

First off, he plays for our bogey team, Huddersfield Town, who we only seem to beat in the FA Cup. Second of all, he always scores against us. I believe he has five goals in his last five league appearances against the Royals.

But Reading fans so desperately want to see him turn out in the blue and white hoops. He's the fourth top goalscorer in the Championship - he's quick and he's just what we need.

Undoubtedly, he would cost a lot of money, but that's what our owners need to be doing to revitalise our squad, and get out of this rut of appalling league finishes.

Reading need goals and Wells can do that for sure.

IN - Shane Duffy

When Middlesbrough turned from a mediocre midtable side to promotion pushers, they went around signing some of the best players from the Championship, and from League One as well, which is what Reading will have to do if they want to go up.

Blackburn have a heavy amount of debt at the moment and I'm pretty sure they'd take some relatively low fees for some of their top players (obviously still in the millions, however), and Shane Duffy would be a significant step forward in improving Reading's defensive record.

Paul McShane has been fantastic for the Royals this year, and Duffy has been one of the best defenders in the Championship, and a partnership between the two could offer a great deal of success.

IN - Scott Sinclair

The former Swansea City star needs to rebuild his career after numerous terrible seasons for the 26-year-old.

He's only made 21 appearances so far this season with Aston Villa, who have had one of the worst seasons in Premier League history.

He needs to start rebuilding his career from the ground up and the Championship is the place to do it. I doubt many Aston Villa players will survive a very harsh round of player cuts, meaning he could therefore be available for a low fee.

Sinclair is proven in the Championship and Reading could do with some talent out wide, especially if Ola John doesn't sign on permanently and Hal Robson-Kanu decides to leave on a free transfer.

OUT - Simon Cox

The Republic of Ireland international has only started for two games for Reading this season, and hasn't scored a single goal in over a year despite a loan spell at Bristol City, and there is absolutely no way he has a future at the club.

His contract is up this summer and he is unlikely to be offered a new deal by the club and, if he was, our fan base would not be very impressed.

There is no way Cox will be at Reading next season, and it's a good thing to.

We need a new batch of centre forwards and he has no place in it.

OUT - Lucas Piazon

The Brazilian signed on loan a week before the end of the transfer window and has done very little to earn a place in the first team.

He's been a luxury player at best and, like many of our six loanees, has been a monumental disappointment.

Piazon certainly has an end product, but his pitiful work rate and lack of defensive effort have proven a distinct annoyance for Reading fans.

If we'd done a bit better this season, and Piazon had performed, you wouldn't be shocked to see him here next season, but he hasn't and he won't be.

OUT - Matej Vydra

There is no way Matej Vydra will be returning to Reading next season, after the Royals stumped up £2.5 million to bring him on loan for the season from Watford.

He's only scored two league and has been monumentally disappointing.

There is reportedly an agreement in place for Vydra to join permanently for an astonishing £12 million if we were promoted from the Championship. Obviously, that isn't going to happen, and that clause won't be activated.

I think Vydra is a very talented player, but he's just not the striker we need and he won't be here next season.
