An unbelievable season has unfolded at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium this season.

With most, if not all Gills supporters in dreamland and gob smacked at the realistic chance of promotion to the Championship.

Justin Edinburgh's first full season at the Gills has brought consistency, hunger and energy to the squad and their supporters. Medway is buzzing once again and would love to see the blues back in the second tier of English football.

It hasn't just been down to Edinburgh for an incredible season so far, also David Kerslake's input and involvement can not go a miss. Brought in to play deputy to Edinburgh, Kerslake has brought a breath of experience to the camp.

At the start of the season Edinburgh brought in two loanees from last season, Max Ehmer and Bradley Garmston on three-year contracts. Two players that was wanted by higher opposition, Gills supporters started to believe they could have a successful season and better their previous campaign. Even though most bookmakers had Gillingham down as third favourites for relegation.

Boasting the best home record in League One this season with 43 points, if Gills were a little more consistent on the road they could be amongst the top two. Dropping points away from home at the likes of Walsall, Doncaster and Wigan (with 0-2 leads in all three games) could cost the Kent outfit an automatic promotion place come the end of the season.

Gills fans Jake Allchin has selected three players who the club should get in, and three the club may have to offload in the summer....

Players Out

Bradley Dack (Attacking Midfielder)

dack33

Much sought after attacking midfielder and Four Four Two's League One player of the season, Bradley Dack, has shown unbelievable flair and creativity this season.

Gills will find it hard to fend off interest in the summer, with scouts from the Premier League and Championship casting their eye over the talented youngster.

Dack has an eye for goal and creates many chances for his fellow team mates.

In the January transfer window Gills believed to have turned down four bids from Bristol City, three of them coming on transfer deadline day.

With Gills in a good financial state from recent years, Paul Scally was reluctant to let his star man move on.

Contracted until 2018, even if Gills do the remarkable and get promotion to the Championship via League One, after being tipped as third favourites for relegation at the start of the season, it will show great intentions to keep a young talent with such huge potential!

John Egan (Central Defender)

egan

Mr consistent, John Egan, has been an ever present fixture in Gills match day squad in the last two seasons.

Getting better with age, Egan hardly puts a foot wrong at the back and controls the defensive line week in, week out.

Like Dack, Justin Edinburgh has got the best out of Egan, with clubs sniffing around after the talented defender from the Championship.

However Egan will be a free agent in the summer and could leave Gills for a tribunal fee.

This hasn't been without Edinburgh and Scally offering Egan numerous extended contract offers, the last one being said to be the best package the club have ever offered a player.

Gills supporters can only be optimistic for Egan to put pen-to-paper on a new deal at Priestfield, as things have been very quiet at the club surrounding the deal for sometime.

Jermaine McGlashan (Winger)

Jermaine McGlashanJermaine McGlashan

Could Jermaine McGlashan be shown the exit door by Justin Edinburgh in the summer?

The speedy winger has been surplus to requirements mostly all season, apart from recently where he has played a bit part, either coming off the bench or filling in, in the starting XI because of injuries.

Out of contract at the end of the season, McGlashan has found it hard to force his way into the starting XI at Priestfield during 2015/16 season.

With Edinburgh reverting to either a diamond midfield or using wingback's, the out and out winger does not suit Edinburgh's favoured formations.

Used occasionally as an impact sub through the middle, McGlashan does not tend to get enough time on the pitch to get into his stride.

With no fee needed, there could be plenty of suitors from the likes of League One and Two in the summer to wrap up Jermaine McGlashan's services.

Players In

Mark Byrne (Attacking Midfielder)

Mark Byrne Mark Byrne

Newport County captain Mark Byrne is a creative/attacking midfielder and is no stranger to Gills boss Justin Edinburgh.

Already played under Edinburgh at Rushden & Diamonds and Newport, Edinburgh is keen to re-sign the box to box midfielder.

Rumoured to be a target during the January transfer window, Edinburgh came out in the press to say he could have signed Byrne on transfer deadline day but thought it would be unfair on his old club, as they are battling against relegation (more so nearer the time of interest in January).

Newport would have required a fee for his services but in the summer he is out of contract with the Welsh outfit, so waiting until the end of the season to see what league both teams are in, maybe beneficial to both.

Andrew Crofts (Central Midfielder)

croftsss

Medway born talisman Andrew Crofts could be a potential target in the summer, as Justin Edinburgh will be looking to add some experience to his young squad.

Crofts rejoined the Gills at the end of March on loan from Brighton until the end of the season, with Gills supporters dreaming of a top six finish!

Hardworking and not scared of a tackle, Crofts brings not only technical flare but also that extra bit of grit and determination in the middle of the park.

The Welsh international still spoken of by many as a Championship player, would be over the moon to see his hometown club secure promotion back to the Championship.

Already turning down a couple of Championship loan bids from elsewhere, there only seems to be one destination in the summer? Right?

Matt Godden (Striker)

Would be a gamble, but it's about time Gills took a gamble on hot property from the non-league circuit.

Matt Godden could be that star signing after shining for National South side Ebbsfleet this season.

On many Football League clubs radars, Godden is a natural goalscorer who is currently joint top scorer for the table toppers with 22 goals.

Being a local lad, could Gills be interested in a talented young man, who has his peek of his career still to come, as only being 24 years old.

Godden apparently turned down a new contract with Scunthorpe United to play in the non league, as he thrives to play and show what he is capable of. Good move? Maybe Justin Edinburgh could have something to say about that come the summer?
