Barnsley have been erratically brilliant over their opening 20 games this season but have so far lacked consistency.

They currently sit in sixth place in the League One table having lost back-to-back games against Sunderland and Wycombe Wanderers respectively.

Manager Daniel Stendel has managed to create a slick attacking unit capable of playing, at times, breathtaking football, but is yet to truly crack the defensive conundrum.

It is not about to get any easier for them either as they come up against League One's leaders Portsmouth at Oakwell.

Kenny Jackett's side currently sit comfortably top of the League One table, six points clear of second-placed Luton Town and 12 points clear of Stendel's side.

This will no doubt be the biggest test of the German's managerial credentials in English football and a win would do absolute wonders for his side's confidence.

But how will they line-up?

Here is what we think...

Davies is an absolute guaranteed starter.

The Welshman is the Tykes' most reliable performer and, as club captain, is not likely to be dropped any time soon.

Expect a return to the starting line-up for Jordan Williams.

Last weekend's trip to Wycombe saw centre-forward Jacob Brown fill in with, well, mixed results at best.

Stendel has a solid centre-back pairing which is not likely to be changed.

Lindsay is one of the league's most highly-rated centre-backs and will undoubtedly retain his place for the Portsmouth clash.

Alongside Lindsay will, of course, be Pinnock.

The 25-year-old has become a vital member of Stendel's set-up and alongside Lindsay is an important show of consistency.

Fryers has done a good job so far this season and will retain his place on Saturday.

His attacking threat down the left-hand side could prove crucial against a physical Pompey side.

I expect Stendel to revert to the 4-2-3-1 formation that he had so much success with earlier in the season.

That will mean Mowatt dropping deeper but he has proven more than capable in that role.

Summer signing McGeehan will continue alongside Mowatt.

The pair have formed a decent partnership and one that will only improve the more they play, so it would be a surprise to see them broken up.

Over on the right-wing expect to see Steven-Bahre retain his spot.

He is slowly becoming an impressive presence, capable of brilliance in attack and industrious in defence.

It would be amazing if Saturday did not see a return to the starting line-up for Brad Potts.

He has been the club's outstanding creative threat this season and having started on the bench against Wycombe expect to see him back and starting.

Thiam could well return for the Tykes.

His directness in attack and the fact he is capable of the spectacular means he could be a key presence against the high-flyers.

Leading the line will, of course, be Moore.

11 League One goals already this season means he is by far their most reliable source of goals and borderline undroppable.
