With the recent change of manager at Aston Villa comes a change of approach and hopefully, a change of fortunes too.

They're targeting a Premier League return and one way Dean Smith is hoping to achieve that is to get the best out of his whole squad.

It means players previously frozen out under Steve Bruce might well get a chance to prove their worth before any moves in the January transfer window.

This week, Villa will play a behind-closed-doors friendly at Bodymoor Heath, looking to give a selection of those not on international duty a chance to shine. That will include fringe players with fewer minutes than the rest, hoping for match fitness as well as a chance to shine.

With the talent at his disposal, smith should see a turnaround of Villa's fortunes, but can these three players ensure that they're along for the ride as well?

It is surely 'do or die' for Lansbury this week. He has to catch the manager's eye and convince him there's something in him worth hanging on to.

Lansbury is a talented boy but if he doesn't make an impression, he's surely the first out of the door.

Bree will almost certainly feature in the friendly this week and is another who will be desperate to prove he has a part to play in the coming weeks.

He's a right back who will surely feel there's a place for him in the new-look Villa defence, at least until Smith can get busy in the transfer market.

There's a lot of expectation on Anwar El-Ghazi's shoulders and he will be playing for his reputation when the friendly kicks off.

He's one who arrived in the summer with a mountain of promise but as yet, has shown little. He needs a jump start, something to fire him into life, otherwise his Villa tenure could be much shorter than he anticipated.
