Lee Bowyer has done a brilliant job since taking over as Charlton Athletic manager last season, guiding them into the race for automatic promotion amidst a host of off-field issues.

The Addicks missed the chance to close the gap on the top-two on Saturday, however, drawing 0-0 away to Peterborough United with Karlan Grant missing a late penalty for the visitors.

But still it left them just three points behind second-placed Portsmouth and with just a few days left of the January transfer window, Bowyer will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen his squad in order to close the gap.

They received a blow on Monday morning, however, when Bolton manager Phil Parkinson revealed that rumoured Addicks target Erhun Oztumer had no intention of leaving the club this month.

It leaves Bowyer with a bit of a headache and he will be looking to move on to similar targets as soon as possible.

We are here to help, so here are THREE alternatives they could now turn to...

Danny Mayor

The Bury attacker has been on brilliant form so far this season, helping the Shakers into the automatic promotion race in League Two.

Five goals and seven assists point to someone capable of making the step up to League One and with his contract set to run out in the summer, Bowyer could get him for a bargain this month.

Jamie Devitt

Much-like Mayor, Devitt has been the key creator in Carlisle's impressive rise up the fourth-tier table.

He boasts and even more impressive record as well, with eight goals and seven assists, and would surely relish the chance to prove himself at a higher level.

Graham Carey

Carey has been one of the third tier's stand out creators for the past few seasons, often being the only bright spark in a struggling side.

Despite sitting in 17th place, Carey has still managed to rack up an impressive three goals and eight assists.

His contract is set to expire in the summer and Charlton would almost certainly benefit from his services.
