Sunderland have made the decision to make long-serving kit manager John Cooke redundant having spent 25 years in the role, as per Chronicle Live.

It's a decision that has disappointed many Black Cats fans with Chronicle Live journalist James Hunter labelling the decision as 'very, very poor'.

What makes this decision worse is the apparent lack of acknowledgement from the club, with there being no official word from the club regarding the news.

Under-23 kit man Steve Aziz has take over Cooke's duties and has been present at every game of the Black Cats' 2020/21 campaign so far.

As aforementioned, this news has sparked criticism from plenty of Sunderland fans but it has also got former Mackems goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen reacting.

Sorensen took to Twitter to urge the club not to forget about 'Cookie' who spent so long at the club.

Speaking to Chronicle Live regarding his situation, Cooke said: "It's very disappointing to be made redundant from the club where I've spent more than 30 years as a player and staff member, without even a mention that I have left.

"The way it has been handled leaves an especially sour taste, and I'm looking at what legal options are available to me."
