Thomas Christiansen should do this to his Leeds United side to combat Nathaniel Mendez-Laing’s threat

Leeds United travel to Cardiff City this evening, where Thomas Christiansen’s side will face their biggest challenge of the 2017/18 campaign so far.

Leeds and Cardiff are both on 20 points from their opening nine fixtures, sharing the lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Thomas Christiansen will have spent time identifying a number of threats that Cardiff have, and how his Leeds side will be able to deal with Neil Warnock’s men.

One player Leeds will have to be particularly wary of is Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, the winger who has already scored four Championship goals and added two assists this season, as well as picking up August’s Player of the Month award.

Here at FLW, we have looked at how Christiansen could line his Leeds side up this evening to try and combat Mendez-Laing’s threat going forward.

The likelihood is that Mendez-Laing will play on the right of Cardiff’s team, and we believe Christiansen needs to make two key changes to his side this evening to deal with the 25-year-old.

We would bring Gaetano Berardi in for Vurnon Anita at left-back, with the Swiss defender slightly more suited the role, whilst we also believe that Stuart Dallas should start ahead of Pablo Hernandez on the left wing.

Leaving Hernandez out is a big call, with the Spanish playmaker in excellent form, however, away from Elland Road, Dallas offers more to the team defensively, which makes him a vital part of Leeds’ plan this evening.

The only other change from Saturday’s victory over Ipswich Town, should see Pontus Jansson return to the heart of defence, replacing Conor Shaughnessy.

Leeds fans… What do you think? Should Berardi and Dallas start this evening? Let us know your thoughts!
