Leeds United’s latest signing Tyler Roberts won’t make his debut in the big clash against Cardiff City tomorrow at Elland Road.

The 19-year old joined from West Brom on deadline day for a fee believed to be around £2.5m and was seen as something of a coup for the Whites.

It put an end to the Yorkshire clubs search for a striker in January that had seen them linked with a move for the likes of Chris Martin and Jordan Hugill.

However, they opted for Roberts who had spent the first part of the season on loan at Walsall in League One, where he scored five goals in 17 games.

But, Thomas Christiansen has told BBC reporter Adam Pope that Roberts won’t be in the squad for the game against Cardiff after arriving with a knock.

That means the youngster could be set to make his debut in eight days’ time when Leeds make the short trip across Yorkshire to Sheffield United for what will be a huge game.

Roberts’s absence tomorrow will be a big blow as Leeds have failed to score in four of their previous five league games.

The Verdict

Given the worrying form of the current Leeds forwards, there is a lot of expectancy and pressure on Roberts who fans are hoping will fire them towards the top six.

Whilst that may be a bit unfair, it’s understandable given the position the club are in. Therefore, this injury is not what the team needed.

However, there’s a long way to go in the campaign and it gives a chance to the likes of Pierre-Michel Lasogga or Kemar Roofe to show they deserve to start.
