Thomas Christiansen has played up the importance of tomorrow’s clash between Leeds United and Sheffield United, indicating that it is a must win game for the Whites, reports BBC Radio Leeds’, Adam Pope.

Leeds enter Friday’s clash in fourth, whilst their visitors, Sheffield United, are third, currently four points ahead of Christiansen’s side in the Sky Bet Championship table. The Elland Road boss has highlighted the significance of tomorrow’s fixture, noting that if his side lose to the Blades, the gap between them will be too large for this stage of the season.

Speaking to the media, Christiansen said: “If we lose to them we are 7 points behind them. That’s too much at this point in the season.”

Victory for Chris Wilder’s Blades will move them to the top of the Championship table ahead of Saturday’s fixtures, whilst victory for Leeds would see them move within one point of the automatic promotion places. The Whites head into the fixture on the back of a mixed week, having ended a three game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Bristol City last weekend, but have also seen their Carabao Cup run ended by Premier League outfit, Leicester City.

Christiansen has confirmed that Stuart Dallas will be available for selection, but Cameron Borthwick-Jackson will be unavailable.

The Verdict

Christiansen’s comments highlight just how big this fixture is for Leeds tomorrow.

Victory for the Whites and they will be looking for a serious push for automatic promotion, but defeat would deal them a huge blow.

Christiansen’s comments are encouraging, and Leeds’ supporters can expect an extremely committed performance from their side tomorrow evening.
