Leeds United have signed 19-year-old Dutch striker Jay-Roy Grot on a four-year deal.

The Yorkshire club paid NEC Nijmegen a fee of around £1.5 million for the player’s services as they look to bolster their front line following the departure of Chris Wood.

Here at FLW, we think this has the potential to be a seriously good signing for Thomas Christiansen’s side.

The forward, who stands at a whopping 6’3” only turned professional two years ago and has already made his way to the second division in England, quite an impressive achievement.

Given how well Kemar Roofe played in United’s 5-1 demolition job of Newport County in which he scored a hat-trick, it is unlikely that the youngster will be thrust straight into the first team.

However, his size, strength and sheer power on the ball will make him a very useful man to bring on late in the game if Christiansen is trying to hold onto a slender lead.

From what we have seen of the youngster, his hold up play looks good and his ability in the air and finishing look top draw too.

Grot did struggle last season, scoring just five league goals in 20 appearances but with higher quality teammates and the deafening support at Elland Road expect him to bag plenty more than five in his debut season.

Considering the £15 million the club received for Wood, £1.5 million isn’t much of a risk to take on a player who could wind up playing a crucial role in United’s push for promotion.

He has been a name on the lips of many a Dutch football fan and now we here in England are about to find out why.
