League One high-flyers Portsmouth are interested in bringing Derby striker David Nugent back to Fratton Park, seven-and-a-half years after he left the club, according to the Mirror Live transfer blog (10/01, 12.47pm).

With Derby manager Frank Lampard keen to freshen up his squad during the January transfer window, he is therefore willing to let Nugent go, as he is currently one of the top earners at Pride Park.

So would Nugent be a good signing for Pompey?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"100%.

"His powers at the top end of the Championship are starting to fade but I would fancy him to score for fun in the third tier.

"It looks set to be a tight battle for promotion in League One and somebody like Nugent could be the difference."

Gary Hutchinson

“He could be.

“I’m always a little reticent to see older professionals dropping down.

“Sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn’t.

“Portsmouth have Pitman and Hawkins up top, Nugent will push one of those out of the picture.”

Alfie Burns

“This'd be unreal business.

“Nugent is a player that has a wealth of experience and to add to that, he possess real class in the final third.

“For Pompey, he’d help them over the line in the race for promotion.”

Jay Taylor

“If Portsmouth can get an ounce of the David Nugent they once had, then they are on to a winner.

“It would be a signing that would roll back the years and potentially motivated Pompey to achieve their aim of promotion.

“Kenny Jackett has a relatively young squad, and adding the experience that the striker has could be a complete masterstroke.”
