Despite a couple of recent blips, Derby County have continued to perform well for Frank Lampard in his first season as manager at Pride Park.

But Lampard is not sitting on his laurels and has his eye firmly on recruitment in the January transfer window with former team-mate Ashley Cole a potential target as reported on TalkSport.

Cole has reportedly turned down a contract extension at LA Galaxy so a move away from the MLS seems on the cards with a return to home shores an option.

But would Cole be a good signing for Derby?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

No.

He’s almost 38, would cost a bomb and is well past his best.

This'd be absolutely crazy.

I can’t see it happening either.

George Harbey

I just don’t see the point in it.

He’s hardly going to strengthen Derby defensively, and at 37 there’s just no point in my eyes.

Okay, he’d offer experience and know how, and if it’s a coaching role then fair enough.

Jay Taylor

Do Derby need him? Or will it just be a nostalgic signing for Frank Lampard to have one of his old teammates at Pride Park?

They only recently signed Scott Malone and have other options in that area so signing Ashley Cole would be a waste of resources and would send out the wrong message to Lampard’s relatively young side.

I don’t see the point in it myself, but I am sure there are others out there that will be hoping its a move that happens.
