Former Chelsea starlet Josh McEachran has linked up with Sheffield Wednesday on their pre-season tour of Portugal, following his departure from Brentford this summer, according to a report in The Star.

McEachran, 26, will hope to be involved in the Owls pre-season fixtures with a view to securing a deal at Hillsborough for next season, having come to the end of his four year contract at Griffin Park that saw him play 90 times.

So would McEachran be a good signing for Wednesday?

We discuss........

Alfie Burns

“McEachran has a fair bit of craft and during his career so far he’s had outings that have really impressed me.

“However, he’s 26 now and he’s never really hit the heights that were expected of him earlier in his career. Should Sheffield Wednesday take this any further would they be the club to get that out of him? I’m not convinced at all.

“From Steve Bruce’s point of view, the midfield shouldn’t be an area of concern just yet either. Obviously a little bit of craft to assist Barry Bannan would be nice, but sort that out after other areas have been fixed.

“Bruce and the club need to get their priority positions sorted.”

Louie Chandler

"This'd be a very clever signing indeed.

"It may well have been the likes of Neal Maupay and Said Benrahma who stole the show for Brentford last season but McEachran showed his worth.

"He is a very tidy and efficient central midfielder and could be a valuable presence in quite threadbare are for the Owls.

"As he a free agent he is the perfect representation of what Bruce should be targeting this summer and I could see him being a pivotal member of the squad next season."

Jacob Potter

"I think this could be a smart bit of business by Sheffield Wednesday if they pull it off.

"I was’t surprised to see Brentford release McEachran at the end of last season, as he struggled for a consistent run in their starting XI due to his injury problems.

"That will be a slight concern for Steve Bruce heading into next season, but if he can prove to the Owls boss that he can stay fit, then he’d be a good enough option to rely on in the Championship.

"Sheffield Wednesday will be targeting a top six finish next season, and Bruce will need strength in depth in his midfield options over the busy periods of the season.

"Having a midfielder with the quality of McEachran available to Bruce’s side would be a real boost to their chances of finishing in one of the play-off places.

"He’s got a point to prove in the Championship, and he could recapture his best form with the Owls if he stays injury-free."
