Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has got his side hitting form at just the right time with the Villans up to sixth in the Championship, in the final play-off spot, with only eight matches of season remaining.

Alongside this on-the-field success though, Smith is also planning for the future, with defender Liam Lindsay of Barnsley a potential target after an excellent season in Daniel Stendel's promotion chasing side in League One, as reported in the Daily Star.

So would Lindsay be a good signing for Villa?

We discuss........

Jacob Potter

"This'd be a smart bit of business.

"Villa are short in defensive options this season and Lindsay would certainly do an excellent job in fitting into Dean Smith’s side.

"They ideal move for both parties involved."

Gary Hutchinson

“I really like Lindsay.

“He turned down a switch to Serie B in the summer and is getting his reward.

“I’m not sure Villa is right for him, not if they get Mings.

“He needs to be playing football.”

Jay Taylor

“He has been class for Barnsley and could be a hit at Villa Park if he were to move there.

“Calm on the ball and under pressure, too; he is the archetypal centre-half that Smith would love to have in his team.

“If moves for Mings and/or Hause do not come to fruition, then moving for Lindsay would be the perfect replacement.”
