Chelsea are weighing up a swoop for Stoke City's 6ft 5 goalkeeper Jack Butland if Courtois leaves for Real Madrid, according to the Sun.

Would the England goalkeeper be a good signing for the Blues?

We discuss....

George Dagless

He'd be a decent signing for them.

He's not as good as Thibaut Courtois but is Premier League level and will want to show that he can make the step up.

Chelsea would still be taking a bit of a risk on him, though.

Jay Williams

If Chelsea lose Courtois, they might as well take a punt on a young English goalkeeper like Butland, who has already proven himself at Premier League level.

Butland will be eager to push for the number one spot in the England team after falling behind Jordan Pickford in the pecking order and this should encourage him to move to Chelsea and perform well.

At 25, the Blues could get up to 10 good years from him too so he is a shrewd long-term investment.

Louie Chandler

This is just not a good deal for any party involved.

Butland would be making a move to a club where he would not start, Stoke would be selling a top Championship goalkeeper and Chelsea would be signing someone who is not yet good enough for the level they want to be competing at.

Gary Hutchinson

Yes, absolutely - This'd be a fantastic signing.

Butland is a great keeper, and it is better he's playing top flight football from an English perspective.

He might not cost the earth either, given Stoke's relegation, so it seems a good deal all round.
