The wholesale changes at Home Park means that many Argyle fans are slightly in the dark as to where Derek Adams's thoughts might be, as to his first XI of the season at home to Luton Town in less than a month.

All but three of the first team players from last season were offered new contracts, but only two of this coming season's players between the squad numbers of 2 and 11 were at the club whilst they narrowly missed out on promotion at the hands of AFC Wimbledon last May.

The signing of Sonny Bradley on Monday was the 11th signing of the summer as the Pilgrims look to recover from the departures of the likes of Curtis Nelson, Carl McHugh, Peter Hartley and Gregg Wylde.

Promotion, after two consecutive play-off heartbreaks, is now a must, and with a largely new look to the squad, the memories of being top at Christmas and failing to go up should have disappeared.

Here, in the opinion of FLW's Ryan Evans, is a Plymouth Argyle XI that could win them the League Two title:

GK: Luke McCormick

Luke McCormickmklop

Probably the first name on the team sheet, McCormick's form of the last few years is such a boost for the team, knowing that should they fail to stop a player, they have arguably the best keeper in the division standing between the sticks.

The 32-year old rejoined Argyle in 2013 after spells at Truro City and Oxford, keeping 13 clean sheets in 40 appearances and conceding just 39 goals. If Plymouth were to win the league next season, surely the Coventry-born 'keeper would have played a massive role in that.

RB: Gary Miller

Gary Miller

A recurring theme with Plymouth's transfer business this summer seems to be that they have, at one stage or another, played for Ross County.

Miller is no exception, being Adams's first choice right-back for the Staggies in the 2011-12 season when they won the second tier title. In fact, Adams was the player subbed off when Miller came on to make his professional debut for Livingston in 2005.

At 29 years old, he's definitely in the prime of his career, and is fairly athletic whilst also tall at six foot. The trust that the Adams would presumably have in the player who signed from Partick Thistle will help Plymouth immensely, and could potentially thrust them to the League Two title.

CB: Karleigh Osborne

Karleigh Osborne

Signing from West Country rivals Bristol City, Osborne has a lot of experience in the Football League. He made 173 appearances for Brentford, and also captained the side whilst they were in League Two.

The 28-year old has experience of winning the fourth tier, with Brentford in 2009, and after leaving Griffin Park he went to Millwall, where he made 14 appearances in his one and a bit seasons there.

Osborne spent some time at Wimbledon last season, and if he can rediscover the form of his Brentford days, he could be a great signing for Derek Adams.

CB: Nauris Bulvitis

Nauris Bulvitis

Another new signing for the Pilgrims, Bulvitis arrived from Latvian side FK Spartaks Jurmala, and has had a long career playing for clubs in Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Switzerland.

He also had a spell on loan at Inverness in Scotland during the 2009-10 season, playing 41 times in all competitions and scoring five goals.

The 29-year old is likely to be Argyle's key defender, and has been given Curtis Nelson's old number five shirt. His international experience is something that Adams is hoping will bring an extra dynamic to his team, and at 6' 2" offers an aerial presence from set pieces, too.

LB: Gary Sawyer

Gary SawyerGary Sawyer

After Curtis Nelson moved to Oxford, Peter Hartley to Bristol Rovers and Kelvin Mellor to Blackpool, Sawyer will be the only player from last season's regular back four in the Plymouth team this time around.

He re-signed for the Pilgrims last summer, and has since re-cemented his position as a fans' favourite.

Sawyer originally left Argyle in 2010 for Bristol Rovers, before moving to Leyton Orient, where he found himself playing at Home Park in the 2014-15 League Cup first round, and missed a penalty in the shootout.

The 31-year-old was a dependable figure last season, and is one of the favourites to take over from Curtis Nelson as captain; he was given the armband in the first pre-season game, a 9-0 victory over Cornish side St Blazey.

CDM: Oscar Threlkeld

Oscar ThrelkeldOscar Threlkeld

The 21-year old had a great spell on-loan at Home Park last season, making 28 appearances. He was recalled by Bolton towards the end of the season, and ended up getting released as the club look to freshen up the squad.

Considering how popular he is amongst the Green Army, there's no surprise to see him back in South Devon again for the upcoming campaign, and he is expected to feature as a mainstay, namely Carl McHugh's replacement.

The young man has actually played more games as a centre-back than as a defensive midfielder, 30 to 27, so expect Adams to call upon Threlkeld's previous experiences should the team find themselves in an injury crisis again.

CDM: Hiram Boateng

Hiram Boateng

The Crystal Palace player is another who spent time on loan at Home Park last season.

He joined at the start of the season, but suffered an injury which resulted in him returning to South London.

After recovering, he made his Premier League debut for Palace, and moved back south to finish the season at Plymouth, which culminated in a trip to Wembley.

All in all, he played 30 times for Argyle in either central midfield or defensive midfield, and could be the ideal player to partner Threlkeld. Failing that, Connor Smith, who signed from AFC Wimbledon, is a more than adequate player and can offer a different type of presence to Boateng.

RM: Ryan Donaldson

Ryan Donaldson

After impressing for Cambridge in the FA Cup tie with Manchester United a few years ago, Donaldson has continued to put in the performances for his club, and this signing could well be the best of Adams's short managerial career so far.

The 25-year old signed on a free after being released by Shaun Derry, after scoring twice and claiming two assists for the U's in his 30 appearances. He was played all over the place, which makes it a bit difficult to predict where he will play for Argyle, making 12 appearances on the right, three as an attacking midfielder, two as a striker and two more on the left.

Donaldson started off at Newcastle United, making six appearances before moving to nearby Gateshead. He made 110 appearances for Cambridge, and was involved in a total of 37 goals.

CAM: Graham Carey

Graham Carey

Carey was voted League Two player of the season last year, and was definitely the conductor of last season's team.

Adams and the Argyle faithful will be hoping he can do something similar this season, as when he is on the top of his game he can tear an opposition to shreds as well as entertain every single person watching.

Perhaps the main reason why Plymouth lost to Wimbledon at Wembley, apart from the Dons being the all-round better team, was that Carey just wasn't given enough time on the ball to work his magic.

The Irish Under-21 international scored 11 and set up 16 more for his team mates last season in the league, and also scored in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Millwall.

His importance was underlined towards the end of the season, being involved in eight of Argyle's ten goals in a five game period in April. Certainly everyone at Argyle will be hoping that Carey can pick up where he left off last season.

LM: Jake Jervis

Jake Jervis

Jervis enjoyed an excellent debut campaign at Plymouth, ending up the club's top scorer with 11 goals and eight assists in his 42 league appearances, bagging three more in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

That means there was just four games in which Jervis did not feature for Plymouth last season, which automatically triggered a new contract.

The ex-Ross County and Portsmouth forward may revert to his natural position of a central striker next season, but whatever position he plays, Jervis will be looking to go bigger and better than last season.

ST: David Goodwillie

David Goodwillie

It's difficult to say whether Goodwillie or other new signing Jimmy Spencer will get the nod for the first game of the next campaign, but I'm going to go with Goodwillie thanks to what he has done in his career.

Probably the premiere signing for Derek Adams, the 27-year old was at Aberdeen last season, but also had a loan spell at Adams's old club Ross County. In all, he scored three goals and claimed three assists from his Scottish Premiership games.

His best scoring record came from his five years at Dundee United, and he's probably best known for his time at Blackburn Rovers.
