Wolves are among a host of top-flight sides interested in signing Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence, according to TEAMtalk.

Spence, who made his first-team bow for Boro last season, has been a key player for the Teesside club in the last year.

The 20-year-old full-back has made eight appearances for Neil Warnock's side this term, and sitll has another three years left on his contract at the Riverside.

Wolves, though, are said to be interested in signing Spence, with Everton, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United also being credited with an interest in the player by TEAMtalk.

Here, we discuss Wolves' interest in the defender...

This wouldn't make any sense at all.

Firstly, Wolves have Nelson Semedo as their first-choice right wing-back, so any new signing knows they aren't going to play.

The issue for Spence is that they also have Ki-Jana Hoever and Luke Matheson as young backup players, who will be looking to challenge the Portuguese international in the years to come.

So, even though Spence is hugely talented and has the ability to play in the Premier League, it's a position Wolves are well-stocked in and the Boro man should instead look to find a club that could give him minutes in the future.

For now though, he should concentrate on Boro and there's no reason he can't be playing top-flight football with them next season.

I could see this potentially being a good signing for Wolves.

When you look at their transfer business this summer in particular, it doesn't seem as though they are too concerned about bringing in young players who don't have a great deal of experience, so Spence could fit the mould for them.

Admittedly, given his lack of experience, a move to the Premier League - especially witha club who carry the sort of expectations that Wolves do these days - would be something of a significant step up for Spence, considering his lack of experience in his career so far.

But having already shown his ability under two different managers at Middlesbrough, it seems he has the adaptability to cope with that change, and considering the interest there is in him from elsewhere, Wolves may be advised to move quickly to secure his services, in order to avoid missing out on a potential bargain.
