Middlesbrough continue to struggle this season, with Jonathan Woodgate's side down in 20th spot in the Championship and without a win in four matches, as they head into the international break.

Woodgate knows he needs to get his side back-on-track and has reportedly identified Kilmarnock and Scotland right-back Steven O'Donnell as a potential January transfer target, according to the print edition of Scottish Daily Mail (October 6th, Page 126).

So would O'Donnell be a good addition at the Riverside? Is he needed?

We discuss........

Chris Thorpe

"This would represent a smart bit of business for Boro, with the Scottish market being significantly cheaper than signing a player that is based in England.

"O'Donnell has shown good form this season for Kilmarnock, which has continued on from last term in which he received a call up to the Scotland national team.

"With the Scot being out of contract next summer, Boro should be able to nab him for a very low cut price.

"He also has experience of playing in English football with Luton Town, meaning that he would settle well if he made the move to the Riverside."

Josh Cole

“This would be an interesting move by Middlesbrough who are currently experiencing an underwhelming 2019/20 campaign in the Championship.

“Whilst O’Donnell has produced a number of impressive performances in the Scottish Premiership for Kilmarnock this season, there is no guarantee that he will be successful in the second-tier of English football.

“Furthermore, when you consider that Boro signed fellow full-back Anfernee Dijksteel in August, it could be argued that they may not need to strengthen in this particular area.

“Therefore, Jonathan Woodgate may find it beneficial to spend his money elsewhere during the January transfer window.”

Louie Chandler

"There is no doubt that it is a position they need to strengthen.

"I still believe Anfernee Dijksteel will come good but seeing as he is still the only out-and-out right-back in the squad, it would be wise to bring in another.

"Whether O'Donnell is the right man for that role remains to be seen. At 27 he is somebody who will have to come in and hit the ground running and that is no guarantee when making the switch from the Scottish leagues to the Championship.

"However, the fact that he continues to represent his country shows that he is somebody who could be well capable of the move."
