Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer could have a battle on his hands if he wishes to hold onto his striker Lyle Taylor, with newly promoted Premier League new-boys Sheffield United one of the clubs keen on signing the 29-year-old, according to a report on TEAMtalk.

The striker is out of contract in the summer, so unless Bowyer can persuade him to sign a new deal, then he could leave as a free agent at the end of the season.

So would Taylor be a good signing by the Blades and could he make the grade in the Premier League?

We discuss.........

Louie Chandler

"I think this would be the perfect fit for Sheffield United.

"Taylor is a highly instinctive but also thoroughly industrious frontman and those are qualities which Chris Wilder adores in his front men.

"If you consider the brilliant work he has done with David McGoldrick, I don't think there is any question that Taylor would be ready to make the step-up as well.

"It may not be a priority position for the Blades, but if they can land Taylor then it would be awesome business."

Chris Gallagher

"I think it would be a pretty pointless signing for the Blades to be honest.

"David McGoldrick and Lys Mousset have formed a very effective partnership up top and behind those pair they have summer signings Oli McBurnie and Callum Robinson as well as Billy Sharp.

"So, any striker they do sign in the window needs to be a definite upgrade on what they have and you can't say that Taylor is good enough to force his way into the XI. From his perspective, he needs to be going to a club he will play regularly at too, so it wouldn't make sense.

"I'd be very surprised if this happened even though the appeal of the Premier League would make Sheffield United serious contenders to land the striker if they wanted him."

"Lyle Taylor is a very good striker and his goal record for Charlton is excellent. He could be a smart signing for Sheffield United, but I'm not convinced they really need him.

"Taylor is 29 and given that he doesn't have any experience in the Premier League, I think signing him would have to be considered a bit of a gamble for the Blades.

"He's been scoring goals for fun in League One over the past few seasons and his performances in the Championship at the start of this season before he got injured were very encouraging, but there's no guarantee that he'd be able to replicate that form in the Premier League.

"He's very much the main man at Charlton at the moment is and pretty much guaranteed to start every game if he's fit. However, if he were to move to Sheffield United, he'd have to compete with the likes of Lys Mousset, David McGoldrick, Oli McBurnie and Billy Sharp, so it could be tough for him."
