Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer faces competition from one of his Championship rivals, with Bristol City interested in making an approach for Addicks striker Lyle Taylor, according to a report on TEAMtalk.

Taylor who has been at the Valley since 2018 is out-of-contract in the summer, but Bowyer is keen to retain his services and is hoping he can tie 29-year-old to a new deal.

So would Taylor be a good addition at Ashton Gate and would he fit into their style of play?

We discuss........

Louie Chandler

"He would surely be the best possible option for the Robins.

"He is proven in the Championship now and having done so in a weaker team than Bristol City, you suspect he would only kick on further at Ashton Gate.

"You get the feeling that the combination of Taylor's instinctive play and Weimann's industrious nature could lead to one of the division's deadliest duos.

"Bristol City want to win promotion this season and this is a signing that would say to the fans that they are doing everything to achieve exactly that."

Chris Gallagher

"This would be the ideal signing for Lee Johnson.

"Benik Afobe's season-ending injury was a massive blow for the team and it's clear that they need to be targeting a new number nine in the window.

"And, Taylor is the exact type of player they need. He has a good all-round game, can hold the ball up but most importantly he scores goals.

"The obvious problem for the Robins is the number of rivals that will be interested in the 29-year-old but if they can convince him his future lies at Ashton Gate it would be a real coup for the club and could make the difference in their promotion push."

George Brooks

"I think this would be a quality signing for Bristol City. Lyle Taylor is a very striker and his goal record for Charlton is exceptional.

"He may not have a lot of experience in the Championship, but he proved with his performances at the start of the season before he got injured that he's more than capable of scoring goals at this level.

"He's quick, strong, a clinical finisher and his movement is very clever - he's got all the attributes to succeed in the Championship and I think he'd be a good fit for Bristol City and their style of play under Lee Johnson too.

"The Robins have made a promising start to the season and are in a good position to challenge for promotion, but after losing Benik Afobe to injury, there's no doubt that they could do with a bit more firepower up front, so Taylor would be a good signing in that sense."
