Manchester United are edging closer to sealing a deal for Sheffield Wednesday's hot prospect George Hirst, according to the Mirror.

Would this be a good move for United? Should the Owls do more to keep him?

I'm not sure this is a good move for the player.

He hasn't played first-team football because of his fallout with Wednesday over a new contract and it's not going to happen at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

Hirst should be concentrating on playing regularly. As for the Owls, they will be disappointed it's had to end like this, with a compensation figure expected but it's been on the cards for months.

What a blow for Sheffield Wednesday. Hirst’s reputation is continuing to grow and the Owls will be gutted they never saw his first-team progression. Where he seems to be heading suggests he is set for big things. Ben Barkworth Hirst leaving has been expected for a while due to his unwillingness to sign a new contract at Wednesday. However, this is still a blow for the club because he was the most talented prospect for the Owls. Although he is unlikely to be going into the United first-team anytime soon. Regardless, Hirst can't be blamed for wanting to move up the divisions, and this is probably his dream move. George Dagless This would be eye-opening. Hirst is surely potentially good enough for the top flight but he'll have to weigh up the fact that he won't be playing at Old Trafford straightaway. He's meant to be stalling a contract because he wants first-team action but you could see him forgoing that to sign for United.
