‘This would be a very good signing’ – Tony Pulis eyes Middlesbrough deal for 27-year-old: Opinion

Middlesbrough have slipped out of the race for automatic promotion in recent weeks and Tony Pulis will be keen to add some more firepower to his ranks for the season run-in.

They still remain fifth in the Championship table but are now six points behind second-placed Norwich City after winning just two of their last seven matches.

Rajiv van la Parra has already arrived on loan from Huddersfield Town in order to add some more service to the fourth weakest attack in the league and now they are eyeing a Championship rival’s possessions.

Romaine Sawyers has racked up just three assists this season as Brentford drift towards the foot of the table after a dazzling start, scoring eight and assisting 16 during his time at Griffin Park.

But it now looks like he could be off to pastures new with Boro apparently keen to bring him to the North East, according to Nick Mashiter.

But would he be a good signing?

We discuss…

Chris Gallagher

“This would be a very good signing.

“Clearly, Boro have major problems scoring goals and they need more creativity.

“Whether Pulis will manage to get the best out of Sawyers remains to be seen but he is certainly the sort of player who should make a big difference.”

George Harbey

“He’d be a good addition for Boro.

“Sawyers is a very talented player who has excelled at Championship level in recent years, and would be a decent signing for any team pushing for promotion.

“I’m not sure where’d he fit into Pulis’ current formation, mind you.”

Louie Chandler

“I am not convinced.

“I feel like what Boro need now is a player to come in who can take the opposition by the scruff of the neck and consistently provide goals and assists from the start.

“With just three assists all season, I don’t think Sawyers is the man.”
