Huddersfield Town have joined Sunderland, Birmingham City, and Sheffield United in the race for Wolves defender Dion Sanderson, according to the Northern Echo.

Wolves are understood to be ready to cash in on Sanderson, who is expected to fetch a fee in the region of £2 million.

But, would he be a good signing for the Terriers? And do they need him?

We quizzed our FLW writers...

This would be a top, top addition for Huddersfield this summer.

Sanderson impressed me initially with Cardiff City in the EFL, with his form with Sunderland in League One only adding to that feeling.

He’s versatile in that he can play at full-back and centre-back, which is something that Carlos Corberan will like, whilst he’s got decent ability on the ball that will help Huddersfield and their progressive style of play.

At £2m it’s not going to break the bank either, with Huddersfield getting their hands on a player with potential to be worth a lot more money in the future.

It’s the type of deal that supporters want to see the club looking to make.

Jacob Potter

This would be an excellent signing for the Terriers.

Sanderson has really impressed me this season, and I think he's more than capable of playing regularly in the Championship next season.

He's a versatile option to have as well, as he has shown in his loan spell with Sunderland this term that he can operate at both full-back and in the centre of defence.

Huddersfield need additional depth in their squad, and I think Sanderson would be a regular in their starting XI if he signed for Carlos Corberan's side this summer.

But they'll know that they face a real battle to land his signature, with the likes of Birmingham City, Stoke City, Sheffield United and Sunderland all being keen on reaching an agreement to sign him ahead of the 2021/22 league campaign.

It'd be a shrewd move by Huddersfield if they secured his signature.

This would be an excellent move for the Terriers to make this summer and Dion Sanderson is a player that has shown he has a lot of potential to be developed into a real asset over the next few years for anyone that managed to sign him.

Sanderson’s form in League One with Sunderland has shown that he is ready to make the step up to the Championship, and you could see him enhancing the quality of options that the Terriers have to call upon at the heart of their defence.

The 21-year-old is exactly the right profile of player that Huddersfield should be investing in and they can then look to improve him and potentially sell him on for a sizeable profit in the coming years.

It will not be easy to get this transfer over the line given the other sides that are interested. However, this is one that Huddersfield should be prepared to stretch their potential budget for because it could given them a player with a lot of talent and resale value.
