Wolverhampton Wanderers are weighing up a transfer swoop for Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, according to the Mirror live transfer blog (08:59).

Would this be a good signing for Nuno Santo's side?

We discuss....

George Dagless

This would be a top signing.

He's a good 'keeper that belongs at Premier League level and if Wolves can get him they'll have two strong options.

John Ruddy would certainly have to be on his mettle to keep his number 1 spot.

Ben Barkworth

McCarthy would be a good signing to bring in as competitive back-up for John Ruddy.

However, it's unclear whether he is good enough to be a consistent starter in the Premier League because his performances for Southampton have been mixed.

Chris Gallagher

He'd be a decent signing but is he a massive upgrade on John Ruddy?

I can see why Wolves are looking for a new keeper and McCarthy has done okay for Southampton since coming in.

So whilst he would do a job for the club, fans will probably hope they are aiming for better.

Jay Williams

If Wolves are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, they should make it a bigger signing than Alex McCarthy.

The Southampton stopper is a competent but unremarkable goalkeeper at Championship level and Wolves could definitely attract a bigger name.

After being linked with Butland, the McCarthy rumours will be a bit of a letdown for Wolves fans.
