Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert is looking to strengthen his squad for the challenge of League One next season, with the loan signing of Everton left sided defender Luke Garbutt close to being completed, according to the EADT.

Garbutt, 26, has spent eight years at Goodison Park, but has failed to make an impact spending five spells out on loan, the most recent of which was at Oxford United last season, where he made 25 appearances.

So will Garbutt prove a good loan signing for the Tractor Boys?

We discuss........

Kealan Hughes

"Ipswich have pulled off a great signing in Luke Garbutt, and he should really add quality in both attack and defence.

"He really impressed at Oxford last season and proved to be one of the best attacking full-backs in the division, so it is quite surprising that a Championship club didn't make a move for him.

"Another advantage of the deal is that his contract expires next summer and as it looks likely that Everton will not renew his deal, Ipswich could be in the ideal situation to take him on permanently if both player and club have a successful year.

"Paul Lambert has previously stated there isn't a huge amount to spend, so targeting strong loan players is a good route to go down, and Garbutt certainly represents that."

Ned Holmes

"Yes, in Garbutt the Tractor Boys are signing a defender who has proven himself in League One.

"He impressed on loan at Oxford United last season, racking up four goals and eight assists in 36 appearances.

"Garbutt is capable of playing on the left in both defence and midfield and will provide Paul Lambert with some added versatility.

"The 26-year-old should provide Myles Kenlock with some competition and will also provide an option further forward."

Ben Lang

"This would be a shrewd signing, as Garbutt is a versatile player who can add depth in quality to a promotion-challenging League One side.

"His loan spell at Oxford United last season saw him deployed in various roles on the left flank, and this ticks a lot of boxes for Ipswich. They need a winger after missing out on a deal for Danny Mayor who has joined Plymouth, while Garbutt could also provide competition for Myles Kenlock at left-back.

"Garbutt has never really kicked on since arriving at Goodison Park, and he is now entering the final year of his deal with the Toffees. He now needs a successful loan spell to reignite his career, as this could also see him seal a permanent move to a club where he can settle.

"I think Garbutt is a solid signing for Paul Lambert's side, as it is a deal which has the potential to significantly benefit all parties concerned."
