Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has already set his sights on some new recruits in the January transfer window with a potential move for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to Italian website CalcioMercatoWeb.

The Whites though will not have things their own way, with a number of European giants linked with a move for the Uruguayan international including French champions PSG, plus a trio of Italian sides in the form of Napoli, AC Milan and Inter, while Nandez is also thought to be attracting attention from a number of unnamed Spanish clubs.

So would Nandez be a good addition at Elland Road? Is he needed?

We discuss.........

Kris Smith

“I doubt this is what is needed at this moment in time for Leeds, but this would be a signing with the view that Leeds are expecting to be in the Premier League soon.

“The central midfielder is a regular fixture for both Cagliari in the Serie A and the Uruguay national team, showing that he has far more quality than what is seen in the Championship.

“Leeds currently have a wealth of first-team and youth options in that position so at the moment it wouldn’t be necessary to strengthen just yet, with the players there more than capable of helping Leeds to promotion.

“If Leeds were to go up, however, there would need to be a bit more quality added to that role and Nandez could be a perfect fit.”

Ben Lang

"This is not the first time Nandez has been linked with a move to Elland Road which makes it clear that the midfielder has an admirer in Bielsa, and this suggests he would be a good signing for the Whites.

"Leeds do already have a strong supply of midfield options at present, but Nandez possesses the ability to propel the club's midfield to a whole new level, and he would surely be a regular starter at the club.

"The fact Nandez will be able to improve the overall quality of this Leeds squad suggests he would be a worthwhile signing, and it would represent something of a coup if the club could sign him while still playing in the Championship.

"Nandez is an all-action midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball, which makes it clear why Bielsa seems to have taken a liking to him. I think this is a move Leeds should be looking to press ahead with."

Jacob Potter

"This would be a real coup for Leeds if they struck a deal with Cagliari.

"Nandez has been hugely impressive for the Italian side who currently sit fourth in the Serie A table after 13 league games.

"Nandez only signed for them during the summer though, so you have to imagine that it would be a hefty bid that’s needed to prize him away from them anytime soon.

"I’m not sure Leeds actually need another midfielder though, as they already have strong options available to them in the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Jamie Shackleton and Mateusz Klich.

"Their money would be better spent elsewhere in January, as they look to win a long-awaited promotion back into the top-flight under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa."
