Derby County manager Phillip Cocu is looking to strengthen his squad with Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic a target ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report in The Sun, though the Rams will face competition from West Ham, Birmingham City and PSV Eindhoven.

Begovic is currently on-loan spell at Azerbaijani club Qarabag, but that deal expires on December 31 and the Bosnia international is keen to join a new club, on either a temporary or permanent basis having fallen out of favour with Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, after a series of underwhelming displays for the Cherries.

So would Begovic be a good addition at Pride Park?

We discuss.........

Louie Chandler

"I think this would be a real coup at Championship level.

"It could well be argued that Begovic is no longer of Premier League quality but you suspect he would be towards the better shot-stoppers in the second tier.

"Kelle Roos and Ben Hamer have both shown their class throughout their time with the club but they have both also proven to be quite error prone.

"He may be a short-term solution but Begovic would almost certainly solve that problem in the Derby squad."

George Brooks

"I think this would be a great signing for Derby. He may no longer be the first-choice at Bournemouth, but Begovic is still a very good goalkeeper and he's got plenty of experience.

"He's more than capable of making an impact for Derby in the Championship and it's fair to say that the Rams could do with strengthening in that position.

"Kelle Roos is a good goalkeeper but he's produced some shaky performances so far this season and has been criticised by Derby supporters in recent weeks.

"Ben Hamer has started the last two league games for the Rams, but he's failed to keep a clean sheet, so maybe bringing in a new goalkeeper in January would be a smart move by Phillip Cocu."

"He would be a very good signing for the Rams.

"There's no doubt that Begovic has really struggled over the past few years and Bournemouth were right to move him out on loan in the summer.

"However, he should still have enough quality to be a top Championship keeper and he would certainly be an upgrade for Derby. Kelle Roos has been deservedly dropped and whilst Ben Hamer is doing a job, it's still a problem position for Phillip Cocu.

"Begovic is experienced, knows English football and would be a smart signing if Derby can pull it off."
