Preston North End manager Alex Neil has emerged as a contender for the vacant managerial role at West Bromwich Albion.

The Scotsman has done a fantastic job at the helm of Preston this season, guiding the Lancashire club to within touching distance of the Sky Bet Championship play-off spots despite a shaky start to the season.

The 37-year old, who is also reportedly wanted by Scottish champions Celtic following the departure of Brendan Rodgers, has experience of winning promotion to the Premier League with Norwich City in 2015.

Here, we discuss whether Neil would be a good appointment for West Brom...

George Harbey

"This would be a massive coup for West Brom if they managed to lure Neil away from Preston at this stage of the season.

"He is currently doing a great job at Deepdale, and his mind will surely be on leading the club to the play-offs after an impressive run of form.

"I really can't see this happening, but it would be a great appointment."

Jacob Potter

"It would be a smart appointment by the Baggies.

"Neil has done well with a small budget at Preston and he could certainly cut it at a promotion chasing side like West Brom.

"It would be a risk at first, but I'm sure he'd win the fans over quickly."

Gary Hutchinson

"He would be a good appointment, but he won’t get it.

"I like Neil but he builds over a period of time. He wouldn’t get time there.

"FFP pressure would put paid to him before he built a legacy."

George Dagless

"Probably.

"He knows how to get the best out of players and with a limited budget so at West Brom he should do well with the money they have.

"A promotion-winner, too, so it could make a lot of sense."
