Blackburn Rovers are interested in bringing Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton to Ewood Park

A reliable source on social media, Alan Nixon tweeted that there has been a development in the potential loan for the 19-year-old.

Tony Mowbray wanted to make the permanent capture of the attacker on deadline day but missed out on a £5million move.

Mowbray is keen on the England youth international who is yet to feature for his current side in their three Championship fixtures so far.

Brereton made 39 appearances and scored six goals last season under former boss Mark Warburton and current manager Aitor Karanka last year.

Speaking after Nottingham Forest’s Carabao Cup win yesterday, manager Karanka has said he is in no rush to sell Brereton but has not ruled out a loan move away for the young forward.

Having been left out of his parent club’s cup triumph, speculation regarding his future was called further into question.

With Blackburn intensifying their chase for Brereton, would it be a good signing for the Ewood Park side?

We discuss…

This would be a major coup for Blackburn.

Brereton is one of the EFL's hottest prospects, and he has the potential to develop into a top player.

I really would be surprised to see Forest let him go, but you just get the feeling he's not in the forefront of Aitor Karanka's mind.

He'd be a great addition to Rovers' attacking arsenal.

George Dagless

He'd be a good signing for them.

He's not going to play much for Forest but needs the minutes to start making the most of his obvious potential.

I think he'd have a good chance of playing regularly for Blackburn and so it should really go through.

Gary Hutchinson

This is an interesting one for me, but not from Blackburn's perspective.

For the Ewood Park side it would be a great move, Brereton has lots of potential and experience despite his tender age.

It's odd that Forest might be allowing a young talent to leave. Why did he not start last night? Is that not what the EFL Cup is for, certainly in the early stages?

I think it is best all round if he goes to Blackburn where he'll get games and find himself loved again.

Jay Taylor

It would be a fantastic signing.

Brereton has tonnes of potential and looks out of favour at his current side Nottingham Forest.

With the addition of 13 summer signings, his chances at the City Ground look slim, and at Blackburn, he would have an opportunity to play a more regular role under Tony Mowbray.

It’s best for the player if he leaves his current side if he is to continue his development.
