Aston Villa manager Dean Smith will be buoyed by a report in the Birmingham Mail, in which Aberdeen manager Derek Mcinnes has indicated that he may well struggle to hold onto 22-year-old defender Scott McKenna in the January transfer window.

Villa made a bid for McKenna in the summer under previous manager Steve Bruce, but the move was too late in the window and was rejected by Aberdeen.

But with McKenna continuing to impress at Pittodrie, Villa could come back in for the player in January, as Smith looks to firm up his defensive options.

So would McKenna be a good signing for Villa?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

It would be the perfect January signing.

With James Chester picking up an injury recently, Dean Smith will definitely be in the market for a central defender to help guide Villa to promotion.

McKenna has age on his side, and could thrive under the guidance of John Terry at Villa Park this season.

George Harbey

This would be a huge signing for Aston Villa.

They are in desperate need of a centre-back, and McKenna would be a fantastic signing.

At 21-years old, he has already captained Scotland, and has proven his worth by becoming one of the leading defenders in the SPL - this move needs to happen.

George Dagless

McKenna would be a fine signing without any doubt.

He's strong and good in the air whilst he can read the game well too.

He and James Chester alongside one another would be a fine defensive partnership.
