The defensive line including the goal-keeper is a priority for new Aston Villa boss Dean Smith in the January transfer window, as he attempts to build the solid base to support his side's undoubted attacking flair.

New keeper Orjan Nyland has come in for some criticism that has added fuel to the speculation that Villa will make a move for Tom Heaton of Burnley come January.

So would Heaton be a good addition to Villa?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

It would be a good signing despite the continued evolvement of Orjan Nyland.

The current Villa keeper has settled in as the club’s number one, but his performances have left a lot to be desired, especially in the 5-5 draw with Forest where he has not made a single save.

A new keeper is a must for Dean Smith’s side this winter, and Tom Heaton would be an extremely positive choice should the club move for the Burnley man.

Gary Hutchinson

He’d be a great signing for them, absolutely.

He was an England international before his injury and Nick Pope’s emergence and that is something that proves his quality.

Villa are in desperate need of a good stopper, so everyone is a winner.

George Harbey

This would be a great signing.

Heaton has experience and would definitely offer some stability to a shaky Villa defence.

Nyland just hasn’t looked at it at all this season.
