Swansea City are interested in signing Reece Oxford from West Ham United on a season-long loan, according to Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at FC Augsburg in Germany and is reportedly in talks with the Bundesliga club over a permanent deal.

However, Sky Sports claim that Championship pair Swansea and Fulham are looking at the player and might consider a season-long loan offer for him in this transfer window.

Oxford is primarily a centre-back, but can also play in defensive midfield.

He burst onto the scene at West Ham four years ago, when he made his Premier League debut as a 16-year-old against Arsenal.

The player has struggled to make an impact for the Hammers since though and has spent time on loan at three different clubs, including a brief spell with Reading in 2017.

So, would Oxford be a good signing for Swansea? We discuss...

Ben Lang

"This is a signing that would make a lot of sense for Swansea for a host of reasons.

"The Swans need a tall, strong figure at the heart of midfield who is capable of breaking up play.

"The current midfield duo of George Byers and Matt Grimes are highly effective on the ball, but Oxford would offer a contrasting option which would benefit Swansea.

"New Swans boss Steve Cooper has also spoken of the need to delve into the loan market this summer, so this would make Oxford an addition in line with the club's strategy.

"Cooper also has a strong track record of working with young players which means he could really help along Oxford's development.

"I also think this would be a great move for Oxford, as he could now do with a season of regular senior football in England after a string of loan spells in Germany.

"Swansea are a good footballing side, and this could be the move Oxford needs to take his progress to the next level."

George Dagless

"Potentially.

"Oxford needs to get his next move to really work as he still has time left to become a real star but he needs to show it.

"He's capable of being a Premier League player - I still believe that - but he needs to show it on a consistent basis.

"That said, then, moving to Swansea and being one of their stars would be a beneficial move, but he actually has to show he is capable of it on the football pitch.

"Steve Cooper has a good reputation for getting the best out of young footballers and could be the perfect manager for Oxford to finally start showing on a consistent basis what he can do."

George Harbey

“Oxford is a player that definitely has a point to prove after being frozen out at West Ham, and Swansea could actually be a very good move for him.

“Steve Cooper is a manager who obviously likes to develop younger players, having done achieved a lot with the England under-17 side.

“Oxford is primarily a centre-half, but can also play in holding midfield needs be, therefore his versatility could be beneficial for Swansea if they signed him.

“They need competition for the likes of Joe Rodon and Mike van der Hoorn, and he would certainly provide that.”
