Reading are reportedly chasing a Sheffield United defender who spent last season on loan in League One.

Ben Heneghan, 25, has never played a league game for the Blades, but had a very successful spell on loan at Blackpool last year.

And, according to Reading Chronicle, the Royals are admirers of Ben Heneghan.

The centre half played 46 games in all competitions for Blackpool last season and was an important part of the side who fell short of the League One play-offs by finishing in 10th.

So, with growing rumours of Liam Moore's departure, will Heneghan turn out to be shrewd business from the Royals?

We discuss whether he would be a good signing...

Toby Wilding

"This could be a smart signing for Reading.

"They look pretty short on defensive options right now, particularly when it comes to players at the peak of their career, so Heneghan could be a welcome addition at The Madjeski Stadium.

"You imagine that this shouldn't be too difficult a deal for Reading to pull off, given Sheffield United will want to make changes to their squad following promotion, and the fact that Heneghan spent last season on loan in League One with Blackpool suggests he is one they may be open to moving along."

Kealan Hughes

"He could be a useful acquisition.

"He would add some much needed youth to Reading's back four, and after a successful season at Blackpool he could be ready to come into the team straight away.

"Heneghan has enjoyed quite a rise in a short space of time, and he has managed to adapt at every level he's played at, so there is reason to suggest he could do so again.

"Learning from players like O'Shea and McShane could prove valuable too and Reading potentially have a long-term prospect on their hands."

Louie Chandler

"I think this would be a clever signing.

"Heneghan never quite found his feet at Sheffield United but was excellent in League One in a Blackpool side that was built on a brilliant back-line.

"At 25 he still has plenty of room to improve as well and I am sure he would arrive back in the Championship with a point to prove after failing to make the grade with the Blades."
