Nottingham Forest could be set to lose one of their standout performers from this season prematurely, if things go against them in Saturday's trip to Bramall Lane to face automatic promotion-chasing Sheffield United.

On loan Newcastle United man Jack Colback has amassed 37 league appearances for Forest this season, proving to be one of their most reliable and regular features during his second loan spell at the club.

He has, however, also collected a league-high 14 yellow cards this season, meaning the 29-year-old's time at The City Ground is on very thin ice. EFL regulations state that if any player receives 15 bookings throughout the course of the season they will receive a three-match ban.

After tomorrow's trip to Bramall Lane, Forest will have just three games of their season remaining given a play-off push looks unlikely as they sit eight points off the play-offs, meaning that if Colback sees yellow tomorrow, he will be banned for the rest of the season and his time at Forest could well be over.

Responding to the revelation on Twitter, there was a mixture of reactions from Nottingham Forest fans, with some joking about his recent move to a left back position, and others discussing the possibility of a return to the City Ground for the 29-year-old next season.

Here are some of those reactions.
