After their play-off dreams were extinguished last week in a cruel penalty shoot-out finale against Aston Villa, West Brom's hunt for a new manager is expected to intensify.

Jimmy Shan has been handling first team matters since Darren Moore was sacked but it has become apparent that he is not in the running for the permanent position.

Names that have been linked recently include Lee Bowyer and Danny Cowley but one manager who has ruled himself out is former Brighton boss Chris Hughton, according to Football Insider.

With such a great record of winning promotion from the second tier it is easy to see why he would have been up for the role.

So, is this latest development a blow to the Baggies?

We discuss...

Gary Hutchinson

“It’s a blow for Lincoln City, that’s for sure.

“I think he would have been perfect for the Baggies, but now they’re left with just three candidates.

“I still think Lee Bowyer is the top man for the job, but the bookies seem to think it’s Danny Cowley.

“I hope it’s Bowyer.”

Toby Wilding

"This is a big blow for West Brom.

"Hughton's record and experience certainly appeared to make him the standout candidate to take over in The Hawthorns dugout, so this will be a big disappointment.

"It also means that a new candidate may now have to be found, something there isn't really much time for with pre-season already upon us."

George Harbey

"It is a big blow for West Brom, but it isn’t the be all and end all.

"Hughton is obviously a very good manager who has experience of gaining promotion from the Championship twice in his career, so that would be very appealing for the West Brom faithful.

"But, there are still plenty of options out there for the club to go out and get, with Slavisa Jokanovic being the best candidate in my view."
