On their return to the Championship, Millwall has already majorly strengthened their squad, recruiting the likes of Bradford’s James Meredith, and Fleetwood’s Conor McLaughlin, in order to help enhance their backline, and resolve the defensive issues the Lions suffered from last term.
Whilst, the signings of two fullbacks, are considered good pieces of business, Millwall boss Neil Harris still may need to consider signing another centre-back to help add to their squad depth, and secure his defence.
Watford’s Tommie Hoban, who is valued at £638k on transfermarkt, may be a smart move to help support the Lions backline.
Out of favour at the Premier League club, Hoban has appeared for Watford over 50 times, all of which occurring in the Sky Bet Championship.
Last season out on-loan at Blackburn Rovers, Hoban once again showed his quality in the Championship, although being one of few shining stars in a bad bunch, the former Irish u21 failed to guide the Rovers to Championship safety.
Hoban has all the qualities to become one of the leading Championship defenders, and with a full pre-season behind him, can finally overcome his fitness problems, and continue with his development.
Whether Watford would be willing to sell the 23-year-old on a permanent basis or again on-loan, Hoban would be a vital part of Millwall’s squad in the long-term, or just to help secure Millwall with safety for next season, and return to Vicarage Road as more complete defender.
