Charlton Athletic are busy at work this summer in preparation for the upcoming 2017/18 campaign.

After suffering relegation from the Championship in 2015/16, many tipped the Addicks to be competing for instant promotion back to the second tier.

However, they had an underwhelming campaign and finished 13th in the League One table.

Karl Robinson will already be devising his list of transfer targets as he looks to add to his squad and lift them into play-off contention at the very least.

The Addicks have already snapped up striker Billy Clarke from Bradford City and a duo of wingers in Reading's Tarique Fosu and Bradford's Mark Marshall.

With those positions strengthened, Robinson will surely be looking at central midfielders now.

Johnnie Jackson has been offered a coaching role and is only expected to be a bit-part player.

This leaves Andrew Crofts, Ahmed Kashi and Jake Forster-Caskey as their three central midfield options so another addition in the middle of the park would be welcome.

Pelly Ruddock could be a shrewd signing.

His arrival would add competition for places in midfield and really strengthen Robinson's options.

Currently playing for Luton Town, Ruddock has recently been linked with a move to the Championship.

Nottingham Forest and QPR are reportedly keen on the former West Ham youth player but a move to League One would be an easier step in Ruddock's career.

The 23-year-old already has over 100 appearances for Luton Town under his belt so he has both experience and youth to offer.

The powerful and energetic box-to-box midfielder can also play across the back four and provides a great versatile option for Charlton to explore.
