Swansea City are interested in bolstering their attacking options in the January transfer window with the loan signing of Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster, according to The Sun.

Head coach Steve Cooper already has the likes of Borja Baston, Andre Ayew and Sam Surridge as Swansea's attacking options, but he is reportedly also interested in adding Brewster to his side's ranks for the second half of the campaign.

Brewster is yet to really make his mark within senior football having only made his competitive debut earlier this season, but the 19-year-old is highly regarded at Anfield and would be an exciting addition to the Swansea side if the move materialises.

The England U21 international would face stern competition for a starting spot at the Liberty Stadium though, as Cooper already has a number of options even though he prefers to start with just one striker at the tip of his attack.

Baston started the season as Swansea's first-choice striker with his five goals in his first five matches, but the Spaniard has dropped down the pecking order in recent weeks with Ayew and Surridge now appearing to be the first and second striker choices respectively.

Ayew has led Swansea's front line during their recent victories against Cardiff and Wigan, while Surridge has been introduced from the bench in these matches ahead of Baston, with the Bournemouth loanee scoring the winning goal against the Latics.

This means that the 21-year-old is now in serious contention for a starting place in the Swansea side after being required to bide his time during his Swansea career so far, but he will surely also be questioning the rumours linking Swansea with a move for Brewster.

It would be a loan move that makes little sense at present given Swansea's array of attacking options, while Liverpool would surely be expecting Brewster to play regular first-team football if he moves out on loan in the January window.

Swansea would be unable to supply this at present unless they limit the playing time of other strikers, but Surridge's clinical finish at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon will have firmly reminded Swansea of the striker's abilities.

Surridge now just needs to keep proving that Swansea do not need to add another striking option in January, and the forward's recent performances suggest Cooper will only push for a swoop for Brewster if his side is hit by injuries.
