‘This surprised me’ – Cardiff City closing in on surprise transfer deal: The verdict

Cardiff City are close to sealing a deal for defender Armand Traore, who has just been released by Nottingham Forest, reports Wales Online.

Do the Bluebirds need the former Arsenal full-back? Is it a good signing?

We discuss….

Chris Gallagher

A decent signing.

Neil Warnock has worked with the full-back at QPR before so knows what he is all about and will want cover for Joe Bennett, who is missing this weekend.

On a free it’s a relatively risk-free deal and will boost the squad for the run in, so it’s pretty smart from Warnock.

Sam Preston

This one has surprised me a little but I think it’s a good move for Cardiff.

When his head is right and he’s focused, Traore is a good Championship left-back and he will provide competition for Joe Bennett, who has attracted negative headlines in recent days for his challenge that has sidelined Leroy Sane for six weeks.

He is one Neil Warnock will fancy his chances of improving.

Alfie Burns

Warnock’s displeasure with Joe Bennett following his FA Cup red-card could have motivated this move.

We’ve seen Warnock lose his temper, but his criticism of Bennett was brutal, and if Cardiff get Traore’s signing over the line, he is likely to be given a chance to impress.

Warnock knows what Traore will bring having worked with him previously, and although he hardly set the world alight at Nottingham Forest, his addition can be seen as a positive.

Let’s see if Warnock can get the best out of him, because there is almost certainly a decent player in there.

George Dagless

This surprised me.

I think Forest have let him go perhaps too early and Cardiff might have just got themselves a very good player.

He’s certainly capable of attacking another attacking dimension from defence and so it’ll be interesting to see how he performs.
