Hull City will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they head to The Den to face Millwall in the Championship.

The Tigers, who are currently 20th in the second-tier standings, have suffered three consecutive defeats in all competitions with their latest setback occurring in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday against Preston North End.

After conceding two goals in six minutes at Deepdale, Hull were given an opportunity to cut their deficit with a penalty.

In what was his first start for the club this season, forward Josh Magennis showed no nerves from the spot as he fired past goalkeeper Conor Ripley.

Desperate to extend their stay in the cup, Hull piled forward in the second-half and eventually sent the tie to penalties after Jarrod Bowen scored in the final minute of the clash.

Preston went on to convert all five of their spot-kicks, with Tom Eaves' miss resulting in the Tigers crashing out of the competition.

Although Hull were far from their best during this game, the impressive standard illustrated by Magennis suggests that he has simply has to start for the club if they are to prevail against Millwall.

After joining the Tigers earlier this month for an undisclosed fee (as per BBC Sport), the Northern Ireland international has been forced to watch on from the sidelines in recent weeks due to manager Grant McCann's decision to play Eaves up-front.

Yet with the former Gillingham man struggling considerably for form in the Championship, it may be time for his boss to take him out of the limelight and instead give Magennis a chance to shine.

Even though the 29-year-old only scored four league goals last season for Bolton Wanderers, there is no reason why he cannot thrive in a side which has the likes of Bowen and Kamil Grosicki at its disposal.

With this duo proving time and time again how lethal they can be at this level when playing at their maximum, Magennis could experience somewhat of a breakthrough campaign providing that he can strike up a relationship with his team-mates.

Although the forward may not be as comfortable on the ball as Eaves, he does offer more of a threat in the air.

Therefore, if McCann is willing to deploy a more direct style of play over the coming weeks, he could stumble upon a winning formula with Magennis up-front.
