A stat from @StatsChristian has revealed the success Sheffield Wednesday have when partnering Steven Fletcher and Gary Hooper in attack.

Carlos Carvalhal has often tinkered with his attacking line up in recent times, rotating the likes of Fletcher, Hooper, Jordan Rhodes, Fernando Forestieri and the now departed Sam Winnall.

However, @StatsChristian has revealed some numbers behind Fletcher and Hooper’s partnership, confirming that the last 15 times they have started alongside each other, they have scored 16 goals between them.

Both strikers have been in excellent form this season, with Fletcher bagging three goals across all competitions and Hooper four – including three in his last three Sky Bet Championship appearances.

Carvalhal opted to pair the duo in attack for Wednesday’s latest Championship fixtures, which came against Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

Wednesday recorded back-to-back victories at Hillsborough, with both Fletcher and Hooper getting on the scoresheet against Forest, with the latter continuing his excellent goalscoring form against Brentford.

The victory over Brentford on Tuesday evening lifted Carvalhal’s side back into the Championship’s play-offs, leaving the Owls on 12 points from their opening seven fixtures.

Fletcher and Hooper will be looking to continue their tremendous goalscoring record against Cardiff City at the weekend.

The Verdict

Carvalhal has plenty of quality options at his disposal, but Fletcher and Hooper appear to have the most success, with the stats revealing an excellent goalscoring return.

Of course Carvalhal will have to call on other options over the course of the season, and the likes of Rhodes will have a big part to play, but it is clear that Wednesday must build on Fletcher and Hooper’s partnership.

The duo have been exceptional over the last two fixtures, and Carvalhal is likely to stick with them in the coming weeks.
