Footballing stat guru, Goodbrand Stats (@StatsChristian), has revealed an impressive stat on Gary Hooper’s record against Leeds United.

The Sheffield Wednesday striker was in fine form yesterday, with his goalscoring brace against Leeds setting Carlos Carvalhal’s side up for an impressive 3-0 victory over the Whites.

@StatsChristian has now revealed that the brace Hooper scored yesterday took the striker’s tally against Leeds to nine goals from his last six starts against the Elland Road club.

Hooper scored twice for Southend against Leeds, on three occasions for Scunthorpe United and has now scored four times against the Whites for the Owls.

The striker’s goals yesterday were his seventh and eighth of the current season, helping to ease the growing pressure on Carvalhal at Hillsborough.

Wednesday have endured a difficult start to the Championship season, and heading into yesterday’s fixture, had lost to Sheffield United and Birmingham City in a disappointing week.

However, Wednesday now head into the international break in a positive mood, having moved back into the top-half of the Championship table following yesterday’s victory.

Wednesday have a week away from Championship action due to the international break, but will return in mid-October when they face Bolton Wanderers.

The Verdict

Hooper has an exceptional record against Leeds, and yesterday’s performance at Hillsborough from the striker was excellent, with Leeds’ defence unable to deal with his threat throughout the 90 minutes.

The 29-year-old is in excellent goalscoring form, and if he continues to maintain a full level of fitness, he could certainly be the man to fire Wednesday back into contention for promotion.

Hooper’s performance and the result against Leeds will have significantly improved the atmosphere at Hillsborough.
