Bolton Wanderers have announced a deal to sign young Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong on loan until January, with the impressive 20-year-old striker linking up with the Trotters ahead of their season opener at home to Leeds next month.

Armstrong spent last season on loan at Barnsley where he scored six goals in 34 league appearances, but it was with Coventry the season before where he really excelled.

20 goals in 40 outings in a Sky Blues jersey alerted the world to the player’s potential, and if Armstrong can enjoy a solid first half of the season spell with Bolton next season as a 20 year old, then the future looks extremely bright for the England U20 man.

Armstrong is pacey with a wonderful eye for goal, and having excelled for England at every youth level afforded to him so far, looks set to one day break into the full international side.

Bolton are in need of reinforcements ahead of what is set to be a difficult first season back in the Championship, and boss Phil Parkinson will have been in the market for goals this summer.

By adding Armstrong to the set up at the Macron, Parkinson has made a positive stride in keeping his Trotters side in the second tier, and if he can help the Newcastle youngster find the form he exhibited at Coventry as an 18-year-old, then his goals will surely provide the Trotters with an excellent shot at survival.
