After weeks of speculation, Nottingham Forest midfielder Adlene Guedioura has left the City Ground and completed a move to Qatari side Al-Gharafa.

The 33-year-old was a regular under Aitor Karanka last season, but due to an array of managerial changes on Trentside, the Algerian midfielder fell surplus to requirements and has now completed a move away from the club.

With nearly 40 senior players on their books, Forest fans will be hoping for more departures between now and the end of the summer transfer window, with European sides and League One and Two sides still able to sign players.

Speaking about this recent departure from the City Ground is FLW writer George Harbey...

Firstly, did this come as a surprise to you?

"Guedioura leaving Forest didn't come as a surprise to me at all.

"Given the amount of midfielders that Lamouchi brought into the club in the summer, the likes of Tiago Silva, Alfa Semedo and Samba Sow, it was always going to be hard for Guedioura to make an impact.

"He only made a handful of appearances following the departure of Karanka last season, and would have been itching for a move away this season in all honesty."

How did he get on last season?

"Guedioura was really impressive at times last season, particularly in the first few games of the season where he scored against West Brom in a 1-1 draw, a game in which they should have won comfortably.

"In total, he made 28 appearances in all competitions last season and also impressed at the African Cup of Nations in the summer, but fell massively out of favour on Trentside.

"That shouldn't tarnish what were three positive spells at the City Ground for him, though."

Sum up Guedioura's time at the City Ground in one word?

"Mixed.

"Guedioura was excellent for Forest back in 2012 and 2013, and his wondergoal against Leeds United in a 7-3 win at Elland Road will live long in the memory of Forest fans.

"He always gave his heart to the club, and his passionate message on social media shows just how much of a bond he has with the Reds faithful.

"This is football, though, and he will be looking to finish his playing career with one final new chapter."

How do you think he is feeling about his move away?

"Ultimately, I think that he will be feeling happy after completing a move away from the City Ground.

"With only one year remaining on his contract, a move away looked inevitable given that he was so out of favour, and he will now be looking to get back to playing games week in, week out.

"A move to the Middle East could be the best choice for the Algerian."

How important was it to get him out of the club?

"It's massively important for Forest to start balancing the books and getting players off the wage bill before the end of the transfer window.

"With almost 40 players on their books, it's practically impossible for them to keep everybody happy, and it could also prove to be detrimental for Lamouchi in January if he wants to bring players in.

Finally, who else needs to leave the City Ground before the end of the window?

"How long have we got? This should only just be the beginning in terms of departures.

"They have an obscene amount of players on their books, with Aitor Karanka's signings getting nowhere near the squad on matchday.

"Obviously, Michael Hefele is nursing an injury problem so he wouldn't be able to break into the side regardless, but he should be a player that the Reds look to get rid of.

"Zach Clough, Daryl Murphy, Jason Cummings, Gboly Ariyibi, Claudio Yacob. The list is endless."
