The latest international break seems to have been the trigger for a number of clubs to consider their manager's position, with Barnsley dispensing with the services of Daniel Stendel and Sunderland parting company with Jack Ross.

Both these moves throw up an interesting opportunity, with Stendel one of the names that the Black Cats are considering.

So would Stendel be a good replacement for Jack Ross at Sunderland?

We discuss........

Ned Holmes

“Yes, I think so. He looks a good option for them both short and long term.

“Barnsley were excellent in League One last season, so clearly Stendel has the experience and know-how to get a team promoted to the Championship.

“That has to be the short-term aim for the Black Cats but I think the German coach could also be a good option for them looking further ahead.

“His ideology at Barnsley was to build his team around young talented players, with a hope that the squad would grow together.

“Sunderland will be looking for a manager who can help them to regain their status in English football. That will not be a short process and I think Stendel could be an excellent candidate to help them do that.”

Chris Gallagher

"Without a doubt, he should be high up on the list of potential candidates.

"Firstly, he has proven himself in League One. Promotion is everything to the Black Cats as they simply have to get back to the Championship as quickly as possible and Stendel is a man who has proven he can succeed in the third-tier.

"And, it's worth pointing out he beat a Sunderland side to the top two last season despite operating on a smaller budget.

"As well as that, he plays fast, attacking football. The style of play was a criticism under Jack Ross and the hierarchy need to get someone in who will be bold and adventurous.

"To be honest, I don't see any negatives at all to this and it would be a smart appointment."

Jacob Potter

"This should be a no-brainer.

"Stendel has recently left Barnsley, and could be tempted to get straight back into football management after a poor start to the season with the Tykes.

"Sunderland need a manager that knows how to get out of League One, and Stendel is the perfect manager to do just that.

"He won promotion with Barnsley in his first season in charge, and I feel as though he would be able to get the best out of the current crop of players currently at Sunderland.

"He simply has to be their number one target to succeed Jack Ross, who was rightly sacked yesterday in my opinion."
