Nottingham Forest and Leeds United will be encouraged by reports from Football Insider, that Sheffield United are reportedly willing to let midfielder Luke Freeman leave the club this month on loan, should the Blades be able to bring in a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Freeman has found his chances limited since arriving at Bramall Lane from QPR in the summer, making 13 appearances in all competitions, but only three of those Premier League starts.

Both Forest and Leeds have been linked with a move for the midfielder and this news could encourage them to make a late swoop for the player.

So with this new update in mind, should Forest and Leeds make a push to sign Freeman on-loan?

We discuss.........

Jacob Potter

"This should be a no-brainer for Leeds and Nottingham Forest.

"Freeman hasn’t been given much of a chance with Sheffield united since he signed for the club in the summer of 2019, and I think his short-term future lies away from Bramall Lane.

"Freeman has already shown that he has the quality to perform to a high standard in the Championship, after scoring eight goals and providing six assists for QPR in all competitions last season.

"Leeds could certainly benefit from having someone take the burden off of Pablo Hernandez’s shoulders in terms of a creative spark, whilst Forest could also benefit from adding strength in depth to their midfield options this month.

"Both clubs would be foolish not to explore a deal to sign Freeman on loan before Deadline Day, and he could prove to be the missing piece in the promotion jigsaw for both Leeds and Nottingham Forest."

Phil Spencer

"This could be an excellent move for Nottingham Forest or Leeds United.

“Both sides are hoping to add creativity for their respective promotion pushes and the Sheffield United man is undoubtedly an excellent option.

“Luke Freeman was one of the most efficient creative forces in the Championship during his two and a half years with Queens Park Rangers, with his ability to create space and pick out players from set pieces being a real plus.

“It was that which earned him a move to the Premier League – a move which, in truth, has been a big step up.

“Sheffield United’s over-achievement has made things difficult for Freeman and while he won’t want to give up his Premier League dream too easily, a move to one of the top sides could be ideal for him.”

Kris Smith

“I think Luke Freeman would be a tremendous addition to any side in the Championship, which is the reason why Sheffield United moved quickly to sign him in the summer.

“Leeds and Forest are two sides who could probably do with more goals from their central midfielders as Forest’s front three are currently shouldering most of the burden, while Leeds are sharing the goals around the whole team, with no one hitting regular goals from midfield.

“Forest would be the more likely team to move for Freeman this month after Marcelo Bielsa outlined that Leeds’ business are done, and it would be a very smart move from Sabri Lamouchi.

“I think the Whites are running a risk by not trying to bring him in, as Adam Forshaw is showing no signs of returning any time soon from his injury.

“Lewis Grabban at Forest is already proving to be a formidable front-man, but adding even more service and someone else with an end product can only be a good thing at the City Ground.”
