Nobody has scored more Championship goals than the seven amassed by Sheffield Wednesday's Gary Hooper so far this season.

Bristol City's Bobby Reid and Hull's Jarred Bowen have been similarly prolific but Hooper's goals per minute ratio is the best of the three.

The hitman has been around a long time and it has long been clear that he can score goals in the second tier.

However, a consistent run of games even in an inconsistent Wednesday side has seen him really catch fire and he has netted in six of his last seven league matches.

Hooper has broken the ten-goal barrier in the second tier on three occasions but has not yet gone on to reach 20.

If Wednesday are to have any hope of making it into the play-offs for a third straight year, it is likely that Hooper will have to smash the 20-goal mark.

Either way, it is great to see a domestic talent finally showing what he is capable of after his dream move to the Premier League with Norwich didn't really work out.

Natural goalscorers are fast becoming a thing of the past but Hooper is showing that there is still a place for them, especially in teams that are not exactly running smoothly in terms of build-up play.

Wednesday have had many a striker in recent times but Hooper could make the biggest splash of them all if he fires the Owls back to the big time.
