It's been a frustrating season for Sheffield Wednesday so far with them lacking that extra class, that has served them so well in past years, in this campaign.

The men from Hillsborough were expected to challenge this season for the play-offs once more but, though they still have time to do that, they've left themselves with some work to do.

The transfer window in January, then, cannot come soon enough for Carlos Carvalhal and his men.

That point in the season, though, might also be the perfect time for George Hirst to make the next step in his career and move to a League One side on loan.

Hirst has come through as one of the best young stars for Championship sides right now but he is not looking as though he is going to be given a chance under Carvalhal.

Fans would surely like that to change, especially given their form, but it isn't looking likely and so Hirst might feel as though a loan move away would help him develop and catch the Portuguese manager's eye.

For sure, with some big clubs down in League One looking to get promoted, they could surely profit from taking a gamble on Hirst and it would be a move that is good for all involved.

Hirst genuinely has the potential to make it as a top flight striker and so he might have to take this jump into League One in order to keep his progression on track.
